The Art of Shooting

Hello everyone and welcome back.

In this week’s blog I want to talk about, “The Art of Shooting”.

In my opinion ‘shooting’ is an art form and can be applied to many different things.

Have you ever watched your arrow hit exactly where you wanted it to? Or, heard the sound a swoosh makes when shooting a 3-pointer? Can you relate to that feeling of awe and astonishment when you make a perfect shot? That is the art I am speaking of.

That feeling I get is why I shoot.

For me, shooting with a bow and shooting a basketball are on the same page as shooting a rubber band or a high-powered rifle.

There are fundamental steps that need to take place before, during, and after the shot for it to be accurate. Anyone can shoot anything, but can they hit what they are aiming at?

The steps for shooting a bow vs. a gun or a crumpled-up piece of paper headed toward the waste basket are all different but the goal is the same. Hitting the mark.

One of the major steps involves breathing. When to take a breath, when to hold a breath and when to exhale said breath.

Additionally, muscle memory is a huge factor to being consistent with shooting and should be taken seriously. Muscle memory comes from practice and dedication. I may not be able to teach those things, but I can and will instruct you on what to do so you can build the proper muscle memory.

The next point of focus would be form. How you are positioned while making the shot. This applies to all aspects of shooting. Archers, especially, know what I am talking about. Your form will determine a great deal about your shot and can help fine tune your consistency.

I have beginner, intermediate, and advanced shooting classes available.  Please reach out directly if you are interested in expanding your shooing technique.
